1Log a meal in seconds
A meal belongs to a day, so the quickest way to log one is from that day: tap Meal in Agenda's "+" menu and it's filed under whichever day you're looking at. You can also add one from the Meals screen in Browse, which shows a month of meals grouped by day.
| Field | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Name | What you had |
| Description | Where, how it was made, anything worth remembering |
| Eaten on | The day it belongs to, already set to the day you're on |
| Rating | 1 to 5 stars, or none. Tap the current star to clear it |
| Tags | The same tags you use across Dawnlet, such as "homemade" or "takeaway" |
| Ate with | The people at the table, picked from People or typed in |
Only the name is needed. A meal has no time of day, so several meals on one day are simply listed under that day.
Eat the same breakfast most days? Press and hold yesterday's and choose Duplicate. You get an exact copy, with the same tags and company, on the same day; open it and change the date. Tags work the same way: tag meals "homemade" for a month and Insights will tell you how often you cooked.
2Write one good thing
A gratitude is deliberately the smallest thing in Dawnlet: one line answering What are you grateful for?, on one day. No rating, no tags, nothing to fill in. Write as many a day as you like.
Add one from the Journal tab, which shows the day's gratitudes under its journal entries, from Agenda's "+" menu, or from the Gratitudes screen in Browse. When a day has none yet, the Journal tab asks "What's one good thing about today?", and tapping that is the fastest way in.
Make it part of winding down. Open the Journal tab in the evening, tap how the day felt, then write one line about what went right. Ten seconds, and the day ends on a good note.
3Keep the gratitude streak
Your gratitude streak is the number of days in a row with at least one gratitude, counting back from today. While today is still open it counts up to yesterday, so writing at 11pm keeps it exactly as well as writing at breakfast. Your best streak is kept too, and both sit on Browse's Streaks screen beside your journal and mood check-in streaks.
Forgot yesterday? On the Journal tab, step back a day with the arrow and add yesterday's gratitude there. It belongs to yesterday, and the streak counts it.
Meals deliberately have no streak. A day with no meal logged only means nothing was written down, and a streak would turn that into a failure it isn't.
4Earn the badges
Meals and gratitudes have five badges between them. The tiered ones come in bronze, silver and gold:
| Badge | How to earn it | Bronze · Silver · Gold |
|---|---|---|
| Bon Appétit | Log a meal, once | — |
| Good Taste | Meals logged | 25 · 100 · 500 |
| Thank You | Log a gratitude, once | — |
| Thankful | Gratitudes logged | 25 · 100 · 365 |
| Counting Blessings | Your best gratitude streak | 7 · 30 · 100 days |
Counting Blessings uses your best streak, so a run you've reached once stays earned. The sample meal and gratitude a new account starts with never count, and a badge once earned is yours for good. A gratitude also counts towards Full House, for checking in your mood, writing in your journal and logging a gratitude on the same day; see the Journal playbook.
5Read the month
The Meals and Gratitudes screens in Browse show a month at a time, grouped by day, and both are free. Turn on Insights Plus and each month gains a chart and four numbers:
| Chart | Numbers | |
|---|---|---|
| Meals | Meals per day, and who you ate with | Meals logged, days with a meal, average rating, your most-used tag |
| Gratitudes | Gratitudes per day | Gratitudes, days with one, the longest run of days in a row that month, the average per week |
The month's longest run is about that month only, so paging back to March shows March's best run, not today's streak. Both modules also feed Reports for any date range Plus, and your gratitude count appears in Look Back Plus, which never quotes what you wrote.
§Under the hood
A meal is one record: its name, description, rating, tags, the people you ate with, and the calendar day it belongs to, with no time attached. A gratitude is smaller still: a line of text and a day. That's all Dawnlet stores.
- Streaks and numbers are worked out, never saved. The streak, the best streak and every Insights figure are counted fresh from your days whenever they're shown, so adding a gratitude to a past day corrects everything after it.
- The people are your People. A name in Ate with is the same person as on the People screen, and a new name becomes a person when you save.
- Months are filtered on your device. Every meal and gratitude is loaded once, so stepping between months is instant.
Meals and gratitudes are free with no limit on how many you log. Plus adds Insights, Reports and Look Back.
